Adding Google AdSense to the blog

Well, I decided I would finally add Google AdSense to the blog here. I'm going to try to keep it fairly unobtrusive. I've placed it at the end of permalinked blog entries (before the comments section,) at the end of the Full Feeds from FeedBurner, and on the right-side of my Search Results page here on the blog. That's it. For most folks, you won't even notice it.

Let me know if you hate it or are fine with it. I doubt that I'll be getting rich here anytime soon, but figure I might as well try it out.

And for those folks already using it, let me know if you have any tips to share.

1 - I have to say it - the point of Adsense is so people will click on the ads. "for most folks, you won't even notice it". Then what's the point? I think most of us can appreciate that blogs have ads so that the kind folks who write the blogs can try to get some helpful income from click-throughs. Your ads right now underneath the blog entry but before the comments look great, however I'd left-align them instead of center them (so they are directly above "Post a Comment") and change the background color to match the one on your blog. Or, right-align them directly underneath the permalink/social bookmark section. That would actually be better, then you could keep the ad background color the same black.

2 - btw, this strategy would *never* work for mattandjess.net because my content is nowhere NEAR focused enough to produce any sort of ads that someone would feel compelled to click on, so I don't even bother. Adsense is really only effective with targeted content, in your case,
Lotus Notes and Domino. Emoticon

3 - I've had AdSense up for maybe a year, and with what I get off it it more or less pays for my cable modem connection, not much else. Most of my clickthroughs probably come from my Honda site, not my Domino-related stuff. That is, until I set up skankyteenbikersluts.com...

5 - LOL Turtle. Great, that ought to bring in some "interesting" ads Emoticon

Jess, for me, I've never liked the big sideblock ads that people have, so that's why I want them to be kinda unobtrusive. Like I said, not looking to get rich here, just hoping to get some traffic eventually. I'll have to see how it pans out, but thanks for the advice.

Don't forget, though, the more the ads blend with the natural colors of the site, the less obtrusive they are, actually.
